Washing and Maintaining Your Goalkeeper Gloves

Goalkeeper gloves are precision gear. Proper washing and maintenance not only improve performance but also extend latex life and prevent premature wear. Follow the steps below for best results.

Step-by-Step Washing Procedure

1. Pre-Rinse Immediately After Use

After training or a match, gently rinse your gloves under cool or lukewarm water (below 30°C) to
remove dirt, mud, and sweat.
Do not leave them to dry before cleaning — dried mud can damage latex and reduce grip.

2. Hand Wash Only

• Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water.
• Add a small amount of mild soap or specialised glove wash (avoid detergents, bleach, or
fabric softeners).
• Place one glove at a time in the water and use your hand or a soft sponge/cloth to gently
massage the palm and backhand.
• Focus on latex areas — do not scrub or wring the glove.

3. Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse both gloves several times in clean lukewarm water to ensure all soap is removed.
Any residue can stiffen latex and reduce grip.

4. Gently Remove Excess Water

Press each glove between your palms or a towel to remove moisture — never twist or wring the
gloves.

5. Dry Naturally

• Lay the gloves flat on a clean towel in a shaded, ventilated area.
• Keep away from direct sunlight, heaters, or radiators.
• Allow 24–48 hours to dry completely depending on humidity.

For best results, store them slightly damp if used frequently — over-drying can cause latex to
harden.

Long-Term Maintenance

After Drying

• Lightly dampen palms before each use to reactivate grip.
• Avoid contact with rough surfaces (e.g., concrete, astro turf) when not necessary.

Storage

• Store gloves in a breathable glove bag, not sealed plastic.
• Keep them away from extreme heat or cold.
• Never leave them in your boot bag after play — trapped moisture encourages bacteria and odour.

Rotation Tip

Use two pairs — one for matches, one for training.
This ensures longer life and consistent performance of your latex.

Optional Deep-Clean (Monthly)

For goalkeepers who train multiple times a week:

1. Submerge gloves in lukewarm water with a small amount of glove wash.
2. Leave for 10–15 minutes to loosen grime.
3. Rinse thoroughly and dry naturally as above.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• ❌ Never machine wash or tumble dry.
• ❌ Do not iron or expose to direct sunlight.
• ❌ Avoid alcohol-based or abrasive cleaners.
• ❌ Never store gloves completely dry for long periods — latex may crack.

Ultimax Pro Tip

Always activate your latex before a match by slightly moistening your palms with clean water. This
ensures optimum tackiness and touch response from the first save.
